Important Events Happening at the HC POOL Next Week!
Hi Hurricanes!
I know this may be an abundance of information but we want you to be prepared and informed!
Next week brings some important events:
MOCK MEET/TIME TRIALS IS WEDNESDAY 05/18 (no practice).
- Swimmers should arrive at 5:00 pm for warm-up and a quick briefing of how the mock meet will progress.
- The mock meet will begin at 5:30
- The purpose of the mock meet is 4-fold:
- To obtain seed times to enter the first meet
- To allow swimmers the opportunity to get an idea of what a meet is like - getting called to the blocks, starting with a starter/buzzer, etc.
- To allow coaches to make a final determination of which swimmers are "competition-ready" (i.e. can make it across the pool), and which may need one more season of lessons and/or decide which swimmers will swim which events at upcoming meets.
- To allow parent volunteers to "practice" some of the volunteer roles performed at meets (primarily timing)
- WE NEED YOU! The Mock Meet will be run by parent volunteers - roughly 10. Assuming enough parents step up on Wednesday evening, no one will have to volunteer for the entire time (but you are welcomed to do so, if you want!). We will need timers as well as individuals to call swimmers for each event and help line them up behind the blocks. Note: volunteering at the mock meet will NOT count toward the volunteer time required to fulfill your obligation.
- If your swimmer isn't able to make it to the mock meet, get in touch with a coach to determine an alternative time to get times for your swimmer (likely at an upcoming practice). We can use last year's times, if necessary, as seed times to enter our first meet. Coaches' contact info here: https://hunterscreek.swimtopia.com/coaches
COMMUNITY CLEAN UP IS FRIDAY 5/20(during practice 5:00-8:00)
The Hunters Creek Swim & Racquet Club board is counting on the support of its members and swim team families to help get the pool area in tip-top shape to kick off the 2022 season.
- We’ll be cutting back trees (not live oaks), raking leaves, pulling weeds, cutting palms, dismantling the lower diving board, and much more fun!
- We need your help – both with hands-on help and tools. We’ll need blowers, brooms, clippers, hedge trimmers, rakes, garbage bags, extension cords, etc.
- The official time of the event is 5:00-8:00 – but (of course) anyone is welcome to help us get the job done during ANY of the swim team practices – IF YOU’RE THERE ANYWAY, WHY NOT PITCH IN?!The more that help, the quicker it’ll get done!
- We'll gladly provide documentation of hours contributed for students/scouts, etc. that are tracking volunteer hours.
Why, you may ask, do we do this ourselves? Why not hire someone to get the job done? We believe in the power of community – and are committed to doing all that we can to keep membership prices affordable. The HCSRC boasts a larger pool and more amenities (diving boards, full clubhouse with kitchen/fireplace, certified guards, swim lessons, tennis lessons/leagues, six lit tennis courts) at a lower price than our surrounding neighborhoods, but is dependent on membership and community support to keep it viable.
Let me know if you have any questions!
GO HURRICANES!
Monica
